Sweeping Privacy Infringement: Obama Wants to Search All computers

In the name of national security, the Obama administration is secretly drafting an international treaty that will give corporations and government sweeping powers to seize and search private computers and personal media.

When asked to disclose the treaty’s details, President Obama declared content of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) “classified in the interests of national security pursuant to Executive Order 12958.”

Scared about Big Brother? Worried about the chaos that could ensue if the dollar snaps and we hit a real economic crisis? In Emergency, Neil Strauss comes to the sobering realization that, even in America, anything can happen.

Rather than watch helplessly, he decided to do something about it. And so he spent three years traveling through a country that’s lost its sense of safety, equipping himself with the tools necessary to save himself and his loved ones from an uncertain future.

Given the track record of this Admin.–Geithners request for more power over Financial Institutes, Obamas belief that He can tell lobbyist whom they can talk to and regulate the subject matter, this would not amaze me. It is clear that Obama feels someone needs to “Think” for the People, It is also clear that Obama feels that anyone who disagrees is a threat and must be dealt with (Limbaugh, ETC). One can “Rule” (Not Govern), when there is no (Free) opposition.

Of course, it may be infringement of privacy, but with rising and unpredictable terrorism and misuse and wrongful diversion of funds for terrorism, it is highy necessay for the government to take some drastic measures of course within the limits of perosnal privacy. The Obama administration can well be expected to act within normal limits warranted to protect personal privacy. The innnocent lives that form the vast majority of the population expects the President to protect them from the threat of illegal activities by a limited group of people. The ordinary citizen of any country in the world entertains high hopes on President Obama to act discretely on all matters.

@JoeH – Between first the Bush and now the Obama administrations, there is a dangerous and growing sentiment that government ought to control pervasive aspects of American life. We have been trading security (physical and economic) for liberty for too long.

Obama is just one among a long line of American presidents who fail to understand their Constitutionally limited scope of authority. The same can be said of Congress, but as all too often happens with faceless entities, we fail to hold them accountable. Presidents are easy targets, whereas members of Congess rarely stick out with the American people.

All dangerous advancements down the road to serfdom.

  4. Rob Viglione says:

@Gopal G. – People around the world are placing too much faith in men. In reference to this particular discussion, they are placing too much faith in Barack Obama.

What has historically made America so strong is that we have dissociated rule of law from rule by people. Rather than cede power to certain individuals and then hope they rule benevolently, the Constitution expressly limited reliance on individuals to control large aspects of our citizens’ lives. We have for some time now been unfortunately migrating from these principals, and screaming for protection from our public officials.

This sort of trade-liberty for security, both economic and physical-is not new. History is replete with examples of where it ultimately leads. We live in a dangerous world filled with risks to our safety and economic security, but to cede individual sovereignty to others is a recipe for disaster…the end is inevitably servitude. Let’s not forget that those to whom we cede control of our lives are no better than us, they are merely mortals!

Rob–I can agree with your statements, not to mention that a Great number of the people tend to accept the actions of the government as a given. I believe the attitude of years gone by–a hatred of “Rule”, the fear of “Big Brother”, has given way to a weak society willing to forego the principles this Nation was founded on by accepting Governmental Rule as a “Hope” for their future. A future placed on a government instead of a future determined by the people. This is nothing new, not a Rep., nor Dem invention–this has been going on for years, as we slowly turned into a welfare State.

@JoeH – I can’t help but be reminded of Alexander Tytler’s Life Cycle of Civilizations:

    http://www.thefreedomfactory.us/the-lifecycle-of-civilizations/

I just wonder how much longer it will take for America to reach the “bondage” stage?

  7. JoeH says:

Another Great point Rob–Thanks for sharing. I have long felt that this Great Nation of ours will never Fall at the Hands of an “Outside” force, that if ever, our demize would be from within. The power of this Country to survive has rested on the People–a people that refused to be ruled, and relied on principles and freedom as their weapon against tyranny–this is changing, the change is becoming more noticable daily, as the people succumb to hardship, and lay their trust, not in their ability, but the ability of a Governing (Ruling) body!

  8. Rob Viglione says:

@JoeH – Ironic that the hardships to which the people are succumbing, and for which they are willingly yielding their liberties, were largely CAUSED by government.

Decades of social engineering, regulatory edicts, fiat currency manipulation, and market-distorting actions have nearly broken our economy. Sad thing is that few people understand why America’s economy is so battered. It’s like the hen running to the fox, screaming for help because his fellow hens have been eaten!

  9. JoeH says:

And you have Nailed the problem–the Hen is somewhat like the Monkey–don’t see, don’t hear, don’t speak no evil and maybe it will go away. Our Nation has become lazy, gone are the Trailblazers that would stand up against all odds and cherish a good fight, solely for the gratitude of doing such. We “The People” need to be reminded why our Forefathers came here, and what they were running from–and why it was worth dying to be rid of “Rule”. The hope of this society rests on people speaking and speaking loud. Obama calmly has attacked “Freedom of Speech”–don’t listen to Limbaugh, and who and what Lobbyist can talk about. The Governement is seizing control of the Auto Industry, and the Financial Institutes in the name of Economy–meanwhile adding Tax burdens on the People (Mexico City Policy) Reid wants a Train, pelosi says “We Won”, and Microsoft wants Stimulus money to build a bridge–the People need to shed the Star Struct glaze off their face and realize that the “Pied Piper” is not leading the mice out of town–He is bring the RATS in–Damn Rob–You had to “Get Me Going” didn’t ya!!!
