Obama’s Civilian National Security Force (Schutzstaffel)

Obama’s Civilian National Security Force (Schutzstaffel)

Every dictatorship requires a politically motivated military arm. Hitler created the Schutzstaffel (SS), Mussolini had his Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (National Security Volunteer Militia), Stalin had the Narodnyy Komissariat Vnutrennikh Del (NKVD), or People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs, and Obama-run America may one day have something called the “Civilian National Security Force.”

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” Obama said. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

To be fair to Senator Obama, the context of this speech was in discussion of his plans for significant expansion of national community service organizations. Once a community organizer, always a community organizer.

Obama plans to double the Peace Corps’ budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps.  Plus, he proposes to form a Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, Veterans Corps, Homeland Security Corps, Global Energy Corps, and a Green Jobs Corps. For a good review of these proposals check out The American Thinker.

There are two scary elements to this:

  1. Fundamental misunderstanding of “national security.” Obama’s proposed expansion of these nice-sounded service corps come at the trade-off of vastly reducing the military budget. In an analysis of the candidates spending plans you see that Obama intends to reduce the Defense budget by about $80 billion, or 16%. This is just what he is willing to say on the campaign trail, but overall he has demonstrated a clear distain for the armed forces, treating the most important function of government as nothing more than a hindrance. Fanatic volunteers of the Global Energy Corp or Green Jobs Corps will not protect our borders.
  2. The expansion of ideologically motivated organizations with federal funding and political allegiance can pose serious risks to freedom. Be very wary of any hint of arming these groups, particularly the Homeland Security Corps! One day we may wake up to hear of our own Night of the Long Knives.

Ladies and gentlemen, I know this sounds alarmist, but freedom is so fragile and history has provided far too many examples of eloquent-sounding dictators stripping it from people who willingly throw their hands in the air and beg for enslavement. We must be supremely cautious in the face of people seeking power!

I don’t really understand what this ‘Civilian National Security Force’ would do? I thought we already had policemen and the National Guard (in times of crisis) to protect the populace?

If innocuous, it is completely redundant. Most likely, it’s a typical government ploy- use the state to fund a new project that already exists, even though it is more efficient to reform the current system.

Then again, Roosevelt’s social programs created an entire generation of people to trust the state and Democratic party for guidance. So maybe he’s looking to the long haul?

If you just listen to the YouTube clip Obama’s proposal is disturbing, transcending the innocuous expansion of redundant bureaucracy. It sounds very much like the establishment of a politically-motivated, potentially armed competitor to the military.

My caution is that this sort of rhetoric is what we would hear from a wanna-be dictator. This may be a drastic conclusion to draw at this point, but the language and the goal of establishing myriad ideologically-driven “Corps” is alarming.

How Would Americans Control Obama’s Proposed “Civilian National Security Force?”

It was never clarified what Obama meant when he stated in July 2008: “We cannot continue to rely on our military to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

Historical note: Germany under Hitler during hard economic times established volunteer “Civilian National Security Patrols” to help Citizens and to protect the Homeland. But soon after the patrols were setup, the volunteers were transformed into a neighborhood Political Enforcement and Informant Arm” of the Nazi Secret Police.

How would U.S. local and State police interface with Obama’s proposed “civilian national security force?” Would Obama volunteers have access to U.S. Citizens’ private records? Could Constitutional rights including the Fourth Amendment be discarded, allowing Obama “Civilian Security Forces” to search Americans and their homes? Could Americans lose their right to bear arms? The Nazis used Civilian Forces, e.g., the Gestapo to confiscate private arms, arrest Germans and seize their private property, often moving into Citizens’ homes. Could the Obama Administration employ, U.S. private mercenaries now overseas, civilians, to work with Obama’s “Civilian National Security Force” in U.S. Cities?
Most Americans oppose mercenaries engaged on U.S. soil.
