Obama “Urges” Bankers to Accept Blame. Hitler had scapegoats; they were called Jews. Obama has his scapegoats; they are called bankers. President Obama summoned heads of the nation’s largest financial institutions to the White House and “urged them to accept responsibility for their industry’s excesses.” After a 90 minute closed door session with the President, 13 chief executives emerged declaring their cooperation and support for the administration’s efforts to shore up the financial system.

Military commanders in the field argue for more troops and longer-term commitments, saying White House plans fall short of what is necessary to win the conflict.
U.S. Government Expected to Give More to Automakers. The Obama administration will likely give more aid to General Motors and Chrysler this coming wee, but will impose a strict deadline on bondholders and union workers to make concessions to avert bankruptcy. To date, the automakers have received $17.4 billion in federal loans and are requesting another $21.6 billion.
Drug War Testing Relationship With Mexico. Wrapping up a two-day visit to Mexico City, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton referred to the escalation of drug-related violence along the U.S.-Mexico border as “intolerable.” She stated that both countries share responsibility for the violence and pledged $80 million to suppy arms to Mexico’s military and police forces.
