U.S. drug prohibition kills tens of thousands-Mexico deploys 45,000 troops, U.S. considers sending military to fight in Mexico, over 1,000 murdered since January; Obama pushing for global climate deal, big push back on politicians trying to tax porn, British PM plans Global New Deal, and EU leaders agree to fight protectionism…just the latest in your Freedom Under Fire Report!

Everyday our liberties and freedom come under fire. The American Republic once protected its citizens from arbitrary abuse, extortion, and deliberate social engineering. Now the very same public servants who were meant to work for us connive daily on how to control our lives. The Republic is gone and we are left to fend for ourselves, to put up resistance to every encroachment on individual self-determination. The Freedom Under Fire Report provides daily coverage of the most important issues, so that you remain informed and ready to defend yourself. Read on and pass this around to everyone you think could benefit:

Environmentalists Have High Hopes for Global Climate Deal. Todd Stern, President Obama’s chief climate negotiator, said that the U.S. would be involved in the negotiation of a new global climate treaty-similar to the Kyoto Protocol of 1997-to be signed in Copenhagen in December. This new treaty will differ from Kyoto in that it will reach beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions and will include money incentives and technical support to help developing countries cope with climate change.

Politicians Looking for New Revenue Sources: Taxing Porn. It is no secret that most state governments are run just as poorly as the federal level, the only difference being that state governments cannot print money to hide their problems. In fact, two thirds of states face budget shortfalls for which their legislators are now scrambling to fix. In Washington, Democrat Mark Miloscia was recently shot down when trying to levy an 18.5% sales tax on pornography and adult products. Miloscia relates, “People came down on me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t quite understand. Apparently porn is right up there with Mom and apple pie.”

U.S. War on Drugs Killing Tens of Thousands Around World. The drug cartel war raging just across U.S. border is getting out of control. Mexico has deployed 45,000 troops to the worst border areas, to little effect. Cartels are executing police officers, public officials, and killing thousands of civilians each year. “We will kill 1 person every 48 hours,” reads a cartel demand for the Juarez police chief to step down. Gunmen outnumber police and are better armed. The U.S. gives Mexico $400M to fight drugs each year. “The war as it’s fought now cannot be won” relates a Mexican official.

Gates Suggests Committing U.S. Troops to Mexican Drug War. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that the U.S. military is in a better position to provide Mexico’s military with training, resources, and intelligence to fight drug cartels. America’s drug prohibition is causing devastating consequences around the world, but particularly in Mexico, which is the primary route cartels use to bring supply into the U.S. More than 1,000 people have been killed in Mexico in drug-related violence this year, alone, with 6,290 murdered last year.

Global New Deal to Rescue World Economy. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will propose a “global New Deal” to rescue the world’s economy when he makes his first visit to the U.S. since President Obama’s inauguration. The Times of London reports that Brown will propose a “plan requiring massive spending on a worldwide scale” that will be modeled after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1930′s New Deal.

EU Agrees to Limit Protectionist Response to Economic Crisis. European Union (EU) leaders ended an emergency summit in Brussels saying they were determined to avoid protectionist moves in response to the economic crisis. “There was consensus on the need to avoid any unilateral protectionist measures” European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso said. The summit followed the French president’s pledge to help his nation’s car industry , and massive U.S. protectionism of its banking, automotive, and special interest sectors like steel. President Obama’s support for union-driven rules, Buy American clauses, and support for domestic industries is raising big concerns globally that a trade war could erupt.

  1. Rob Viglione says:

The consequences of the war on drugs are getting out of control. Tens of thousands should not be murdered each year, with hundreds of billions of resources committed to fighting at all costs to prevent adults from using drugs of their choice.

Using drugs has consequences, but with all the carnage and wasted resources of this war, we should at some point realize it is a futile effort with dire consequences.

Legalize drugs, deprive criminal organizations of hundreds of billions in capital, and focus efforts on helping addicts overcome dependency. Resources could be much better used in constructive rehabilitation programs than militarizing our society to wage an increasingly deadly perpetual war.
