Best Practices For Publishing Articles

Here at the Freedom Factory, we strive for the ultimate in content and professionalism.  As such, we hold our writers to a higher standard than the usual one-off blog posts you see all over the internet.

Here are some guidelines to follow when writing a new article.  Please adhere to these standards each time you post.  Thanks.

- The Editor

1. Use proper title case

  • As KeWL as IT is TO be cRe@tive w/ ur titlez, this IS n0t the place.
  • Avoid using italics, as it is difficult to read on screen. We prefer bold to make a point.

2. Remove unnecessary text formatting

If you write your articles in MS Word and paste them into the article editor, it adds lots of unnecessary formatting that messes up other posts after it.

To fix: Paste the text only by switching to the HTML tab before you paste.  You can also use these buttons, which are designed to paste text from Wordpad or MS Word.

Use these buttons when pasting text into your article

3. Include at least one picture to illustrate your article.

  • Choose one to best illustrate your topic
  • Click the “Add Image Button” and navigate to the photo on your computer

IMPORTANT: Your picture should link back to the article

  1. Click the Post URL Button
  2. Remove the picture title from the link (otherwise it would like to itself)
  3. Insert into Post. You can optionally chose to center the image and choose the best size.

4. Select the appropriate category(s) for your article

  • This is important for site organization and navigation.

5. Add some tags to describe your article.

  • Tags help readers navigate the site better

6. Make sure you have added your bio and headshot.  It will show up at the footer of all your articles.

[Edit profile] Your readers want to know who you are!  Here’s your chance to shine.  Come on, show us your mug!

Your bio should be 2-3 sentences in length and give the reader a general sense of who you are and why you write what you write.

That’s it!  We appreciate all the effort our writers go to make things easier on the editorial staff here.  As much as we love correcting grammar and cleaning up formatting, we have our own lives to lead.  Thank you!
